It’s time to dust off the running shoes, get fit and put in 5, or 10km to raise awareness & funds for cancer survivors in your region. Round up your friends and family, challenge your colleagues, get the kids off the couch and let’s get active to help our community!

Run for Life is a non-profit event that’s all about helping raise funds, to help locals with cancer in the Bay of Plenty region. That’s right; the money raised from the event will stay in the area so our locals can access the crucial cancer rehabilitation programs funded by the PINC & STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Trust. This incredible Trust provides specific rehabilitation services for men and women suffering from cancer.

Our hope is that Run for Life will increase awareness of the impact cancer has not just physically, but emotionally and financially too. In addition, we want to come together to shift the focus from illness to wellness and promote the benefit exercise has in cancer recovery.

Like most people these days, we have a personal story where cancer is concerned – several in fact! We are PINC & STEEL cancer rehabilitation specialists with our own stories and personal journeys which have continued to inspire and motivate us to spread the word. Cancer is something that most of us can identify with, and the prevalence is growing, with recent statistics confirming just 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer at some point in their lifetime.

Cancer is a terrible disease, and the treatments for it (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy etc) can be gruelling. However, survival rates are increasing every year and there is so much research around the benefits of cancer rehabilitation, particularly exercise in improving outcomes; better quality of life, lower recurrence rates, better survival rates.

Cancer is on our doorstep. Every single day, approximately 60 kiwis hear the words “I’m sorry, you have cancer”. It’s our responsibility to do something about it together, so let’s lace up the running trainers and run to save lives!
